I love the theatre in most forms. I love music in most forms, so over the years I have been to many plays and concerts and I can say with all honesty that I have never walked out of a live performance by anyone. Oops I tell a lie. Years ago I walked out of a play called Steaming. Funny thing was, later I was to become very good friends with one of the actresses on that play.
You see, I know what it is to perform to an audience as I have to do it often, but tonight I walked out of a concert in Brisbane Australia that was by the American singer Toni Childs, who is now a resident of Australia I might add. It was just terrible and I have seen her before and just love her big voice. I have most, if not all of her CD’s and I was/am a fan but tonight she put up trash.
It would appear that she had a problem with her voice for she was sucking a lolly and drinking from a cup all the time but the music was just so loud, to the point it was giving me a headache and then she wanted to talk about her life and her Virgina and lots of personal stuff. Now that is fine for a bit but to sit on the stage bare foot and go on and on about it was a real pain. Personally I thought she was off her trolley.
So for only the second time in my life I got up and walked out and when I got to the foyer, I was to find that I was not the only one. Others were complaining and leaving as well. Now without a doubt the woman has a fantastic voice and that is what I paid to hear, not a load of poppycock about her life in a valley for ten years where she used to brush her teeth in a spring. Oh please give me a break woman. Sing the songs I paid good money to hear and leave the airy fairy stuff to some other person who is perhaps at the bottom of the garden.
I might also add that the audience was quite small to start with and as I looked around the theatre before she came on stage I started to feel sorry for her but perhaps the word is out that she is these days a bit of a nutter. I am sure that there would be some who would have just loved her but it was not for this boy so away I went.
Now to Monday morning and my attempt to get a refund, wish me luck.
I was informed by the theatre that put on the Toni Childs concert that I would be hearing from her management. That was over a week ago and still nothing. Do I expect someone to call or email me. NO. They have my money but the interesting thing is that because I am so widely followed I did not think for one minute that there would be anyone reading my blog that was at the same concert as me but “Alas” I was wrong.
I am told by several people who have Facebook, that if they posted something that was negative about the concert on the Toni Childs web site it had been removed. Gee Ms Childs, you come from the country that believes in free speech as I recall.
Your management and you obviously want to avoid the facts and truth and just move on. Not exactly what I would suggest is buyer satisfaction situation to be had here, but it is funny how these things come back to bite us in the bum if we put our head in the sand.
Now you may be able to remove what someone puts on Facebook but you can not remove what I write either here or in the printed media and as you have not followed through and called me, you will be happy to know that I am followed world wide.
